First, this is a good idea to ensure that proper officials at the child's new school are well apprised of what they are taking in.
But at the same time, every kid should have a chance to start over with an essentially clean slate at the new place -- to perhaps "reinvent" himself or herself in a new and improved version. I personally benefitted from that very opportunity as a high school kid, and I believe it made a world of difference in my life.
