Introduced by Rep. George Cushingberry (D) on July 24, 2007, to increase the maximum commission that horse race tracks are allowed to take out of horse race bets, and require them to pay two thirds of the increase to the Michigan agriculture equine industry development fund that subsidizes the horse race industry. Under current law, racetracks may charge up to 28 percent of the amount bet, and 35 percent with permission of the state racing commissioner. The bill would raise these to 31 percent and 38 percent, respectively.
Referred to the House Regulatory Reform Committee on July 24, 2007.

2) Vice President [by cmdrawol on July 27, 2007] This is a step in the right direction for the Horsemen and women out there. However it penalizes the tracks. We need to make sure the tracks where we take our horses to race are making enough money to stay in business. Without them all the subsizing will be for naught. We thank you however for the proposed legislation. Reply
