1) I smell bacon... [by Anonymous Citizen on May 8, 2007] "That way only the wealthy will be educated but who cares, right?"
Class warfare, yippeeeee! Good times. But anyway.. go ask the poorest Africans about how they pass on the dole schools, opting to pay their own way for quality in under-the-table, unofficial , one-room neighborhood schools. Arrogant statists always underestimate the ability of free individuals to take care of themselves. But maybe if the gummint would butt out of education entirely, and stopped pimping schools out as baby-sitter, social worker, health clinic, soup kitchen, rec center, etc., maybe school wouldn't be the hideously expensive waste that it is today.
"Those lower, middle class children and the kids living in poverty don't need to be educated."
As if they are bolts that *need* tightened up on "our" vast collectivist machine. Maybe it's their parent's responsibility?
"Education is what has saved many people, me included, from a life in poverty."
Ridiculous. Your own free will did that.
"I know what it is to be poor. Do you? "
Class warfare again. Wheeeeee!
"My parents worked hard and would not accept Welfare. They had no money to pay tuition. Public education gave me the lift I needed to get a good job so that I can now make a good living."
So they took the "free" socialist homogeneity camp but that wasn't Welfare with a capital W? You know, maybe if they weren't taxed into oblivion they'd have had more money to support you. But since that's not a state solution, we rarely hear the tear-jerker arguments for letting people keep their own wealth and make their own decisions.
With such a pervasive dependency mindset as this, it's a surprise that people can tie their own shoes. Reply
