Repeal term limits.

Term limits are one of the great boondoggles in Michigan history.

Return power over their representatives to the voters by getting rid of term limits.

Shortly after term limits became the law of the land in Michigan in 1992, a statewide survey showed that voters (who overwhelmingly approved the term limits amendment to their State Constitution) expected this radical change would:

- bring new ideas and people to state government,

- cause politicians to do what is right rather than what is popular,

- control interest group influence, and

- keep politicians more in touch with the citizenry.

None of which has happened. All of which has turned out to be pie in the sky.

Term limits, in short, have accomplished nothing constructive in Michigan government. Term limits are a classic political boondoggle.

The only thing the term limits amendment actually has done is exactly what critics of it predicted in 1992: It has undermined the people’s right to keep or oust elected public officials of their own choosing.

Repeal term limits now. Return power to the voters.
