Introduced by Sen. John Pappageorge (R) on June 18, 2008, to allow an individual to choose to automatically contribute $5 or more from his or her state income tax refund to the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, which oversees the disbursement of state arts grants. The checkoff would have the effect of reducing the amount of a person’s tax refund. A person not receiving a refund could use his or her tax return to contribute to the program. This bill creates the state fund to hold the money.
Referred to the Senate Finance Committee on June 18, 2008.
1) If They Would Quit [by Anonymous Citizen on August 26, 2008] Giving our money to so called artists for painting with poop and other such nonsense then maybe you would find some sympathy. I for one don't want a dime of my money going to the so called art community. However if they stop giving money that they steal from us and only use the voluntary checkoff that would be great.
Remember, if you can't find anyone willing to pay for your "art" maybe it isn't art and you need to find gainful employment. Reply
2) Arts are important [by Anonymous Citizen on August 25, 2008] Hello, I am writing in regards to this bill, and we feel that Art is a very important part to each and every person in our community, and we would truly appreciate the opportunity to get this bill pass so that all people and especially to our kids and that they should have the support and knowledge to continue to be supported.
3) Great Idea! [by Anonymous Citizen on August 25, 2008] I think that this would be a good idea. People are still having the right to chose if they want to contribute or not. It is very important that people feel the need have choice. This bill is still giving people a choice.
There are alot of people who would like to know more and donate to the Arts, but are unsure how. This will give these people the opportunity to give back to something they believe. Something that is extremly important to everyone in world.
