2015 Senate Bill 313

Limit auto insurance medical charges

Introduced in the Senate

May 5, 2015

Introduced by Sen. Marty Knollenberg (R-13)

To limit the amount that hospitals and doctors may charge for treatment covered by automobile insurance personal injury protection (PIP) benefits. The bill would prohibit charging more than the amount a provider “customarily” receives for the same services under rates negotiated with insurers for regular health coverage. This is one of several bills that would authorize cost controls on the unlimited PIP benefits mandated by Michigan’s no fault insurance law.
