2016 Senate Bill 1164

Authorize electric generation fuel source “menu” pricing

Introduced in the Senate

Nov. 10, 2016

Introduced by Sen. Patrick Colbeck (R-7)

To require the state Public Service Commission to develop an electric utility regulation system that allows individual customers to select the fuel source of the electricity they purchase and pay the appropriate market rate for their selection. Among other things the bill would eliminate a mandate that electric utilities acquire 10 percent of their electricity from renewable sources, which has caused hundreds of industrial wind turbines to be erected in some rural townships.
