2012 Senate Bill 1198

Authorize unemployment benefits while earning self-employment money

Introduced in the Senate

July 18, 2012

Introduced by Sen. Vincent Gregory (D-14)

To exempt individuals eligible for government unemployment insurance benefits from the duty to seek and accept employment if the person participates in government-approved “self-employment assistance activities,” including “entrepreneurial training, business counseling, and technical assistance . . . for the purpose of establishing a business and becoming self-employed.” The bill would also allow a person to earn self-employment income and still collect unemployment benefits.
