2017 Senate Bill 363

Give road salt contracts to Detroit Salt Company, not the lowest bidder

Introduced in the Senate

May 4, 2017

Introduced by Sen. Rick Jones (R-24)

To allow the state to not buy products that are “mined” - meaning road salt purchased from the Detroit Salt Company - from lowest bidder. The bill would permit the state to pay up to 8 percent more for road salt from this company than the lowest bid from a non-Michigan vendor. Note: While Detroit Salt's mine is in Michigan, it is owned by a Canadian holding company.
