2007 House Bill 5007

Allow beauty shop shampooing after 350 hours of training

Introduced in the House

July 10, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Mark Meadows (D-69)

To revise a prohibition on an unlicensed person doing shampooing in a cosmetology establishment (barber shop or hair salon), so as to allow a “senior cosmetology student” to do shampooing if the individual has already taken 350 hours of classes on client safety, sanitation, bacteriology, hair and scalp disorders, scalp manipulations, and proper shampooing procedure. Under current law, only licensed cosmetoligists who have 1,500 hours of training may do shampooing. See also House Bill 4842, which authorizes license fee increases.
