2007 Senate Bill 172

Revise foster child relative regulations

Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 6, 2007

Introduced by Sen. Irma Clark-Coleman (D-3)

To prohibit removing from a relative's care to a foster home a child who comes under the jurisdiction of the family division of the circuit court, unless a court finds that the child is at risk of being harmed. In addition, if the relative intended to become the child's foster parent, guardian, or adoptive parent, the court could not remove the child until the placement proceedings were concluded, unless the child is at risk. The bill defines "relative" as a grandparent, brother, sister, stepsister, stepbrother, uncle, or aunt by marriage, blood, or adoption. See also Senate Bills 170 and 171.
