Mandate nursing home liability insurance for patient neglect

To mandate that nursing homes carry liability insurance covering the risks accruing from potential neglect of a patient, in the amount of at least $1 million per occurrence. This and related bills were introduced after the Carlyle Group company's acquisition of 28 Michigan nursing homes previously owned by Manor Care Inc., which has been opposed by the Service Employees International Union.
