2016 House Bill 5778

Expand court powers over government Open Meetings Act scofflaws

Introduced in the House

July 13, 2016

Introduced by Rep. Martin Howrylak (R-41)

To expand the grounds under which a person who complains about a government body’s violation of the state Open Meetings Act can recover costs and attorney fees. The bill would authorize courts to issue a “declaratory judgement” that a violation has or is occurring, and also move these actions to the state.
