2017 Senate Bill 597

Revise end of life decision maker procedures

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 28, 2017

Introduced by Sen. John Proos (R-21)

To prohibit a doctor from issuing a do not resuscitate order or an order to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment from the patient without first obtaining the consent of the patient (or a parent if the patient is a minor). If the patient is unable to participate in treatment decisions then the consent would have to come from a designated patient advocate, or from a guardian if one has been appointed by a court for a patient who is a minor or a legally incapacitated individual.
