2017 Senate Bill 598

Revise end of life decision maker procedures

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 28, 2017

Introduced by Sen. John Proos (R-21)

To prescribe procedures related to decisions to withhold or withdraw life-sustaining treatment that are made by a patient advocate or a court-appointed guardian in cases where there is some uncertainty over who has the authority to make these decisions. The bill would establish a legal presumption that for a patient is unable to participate in treatment decisions, it is in the patient’s best interest to continue to live until the matter of where the authority lies is resolved by a court according to the proposed procedures.
