2018 House Bill 6050 / Public Act 609

Let bear cub ranch breed some cubs

Introduced in the House

May 17, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Dan Lauwers (R-81)

To revise a 2013 law that permitted a U.P. business (Oswald's Bear Ranch in Newberry) to stay in operation by exempting it from restrictions on the possession and handling of large carnivores that are older than 20 weeks. The U.P. business lets people come into contact with bear cubs less than 36 weeks old, and the bill would allow it to breed and raise up to four bear cubs.

Referred to the Committee on Agriculture

Reported without amendment

With the recommendation that the substitute (H-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
