2018 House Bill 6423

Revise liability of employer hiring ex-con with “certificate of employability”

Introduced in the House

Oct. 3, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Steve Marino (R-24)

To revise the immunity from liability granted to a business that hires an ex-convict who was granted a “certificate of employability” by the state Department of Corrections. The bill would reduce the employer’s liability exemption for a crime committed by an ex-con if a “reasonable person in that position should have known” that the person was a danger, rather than if the employer had actual knowledge.
