2018 House Bill 6539

Revise religious service interruption law

Introduced in the House

Nov. 28, 2018

Introduced by Rep. Steve Marino (R-24)

To repeal a law that requires law enforcement officers who are present and “all presiding elders, and ministers of the gospel, deacons, stewards and official members of any church or religious society, who may be present at the meeting of any assembly for religious worship…to apprehend the offender” who has disrupted a service and bring him before the law. This would be replaced with a requirement that an on-duty law enforcement officer to “apprehend an individual who, in a manner prohibited by law, interrupts or disturbs a meeting of an assembly for religious worship”.
