Introduced in the Senate

June 8, 2016

Introduced by Sen. Rick Jones (R-24)

To establish a process and give a liability exemption that lets one police agency disclose information to another about a formerly-employed officer who may have been fired. A “separating” officer would be allowed to review the record and add a written explanation to it. To establish process and liability exemption for a police agency disclosing information to another agency about a formerly-employed officer who may have been fired. The process includes letting a “separating” officer review the record and make his written explanation a permanent part of it. Applicants for a police job would have to give the prospective employer a waiver allowing it to get the records explaining the separation, and the former employer would be immune from liability for revealing this.
