To increase the size of the state Special Education Advisory Committee by five members, from 27 to 33 appointees. This would allow separate board seats for the Michigan Association of Social Workers and the Michigan Association of School Psychologists, which currently share a membership. The bill is a response to changes in the federal law which require state-level special education advisory committees to change their composition, in order to ensure that 51 percent of the members be parents of or people with disabilities, and that there are board members who represent charter schools, and transition services organizations.
