To authorize triple damages, or legal costs and fees up to $5000, whichever is greater, that may be paid by plaintiffs to defendants in strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP suits) if the suit’s primary purpose is to harass or prevent the defendant’s participation in the process of government. The bill is part of a legislative package comprised of House Bills 5592 to 5597.
