To prohibit damages proposed by House Bill 5493 to a defendant in a strategic lawsuit against public participation (SLAPP suit) if the statements by the defendant which gave rise to the suit were false or were made with reckless disregard for whether they were false, or included information the defendant was prohibited by law from disseminating. The bill is part of a legislative package comprised of House Bills 5592 to 5597.
