To require a health care professional who signs the affidavit of merit required by law in order to initiate a medical malpractice lawsuit to meet the same qualifications that apply to being an an expert witness in a trial, be licensed in Michigan, and be an actual active practitioner who spends the majority of his or her time in the same area of practice as the potential defendant.
