To revise the licensure and regulation requirements for pet shops. The bill would require a license application fee of $100 plus a $75 annual renewal fee, instead of a one-time $150 fee. It would authorize civil penalties of up to $5,000 and criminal penalties of up to three months in jail for prohibited practices. New regulations on the transfer of dogs, cats, and ferrets would be imposed, including minimum age before transfer, and revised inoculation requirements. Finally, the Department of Agriculture would be authorized to make periodic inspections, and would be required to investigate allegations of pet shops operating without a license.
