2002 Senate Bill 1369

Introduced in the Senate

May 30, 2002

Introduced by Sen. Joanne Emmons (R-23)

To exempt the following items from the provisions of the unclaimed property act, which requires abandoned property to be turned over the state for safekeeping (and eventual liquidation): certificates showing property denominated in a value other than currency, including prepaid phone cards, frequent flyer miles, stored value cards, and merchandise points; layaway payments; gift cards; and unused travel or entertainment tickets. The bill would allow an owner to demand these items from a holder at any time, even beyond the time limits specified in the unclaimed property act.
