To prohibit the display by a merchant on a merchandise receipt of more than the last four digits of a customer’s credit or debit card account number, or the card’s expiration date. The bill also requires consumer credit records to be destroyed after eight years; requires a customer’s account to be credited within two days in cases where a credit card transaction is canceled; prohibits selling customer information for marketing purposes unless the consumer is given an opportunity to not have the information sold or transferred; and prohibits requiring a customer to provide personal information such as address, phone number, social security number or drivers license number for certain routine transactions which do not require additional credit checks. The bill provides for civil fines of up to $25,000 for some violations.
