To revise the law that require school employees to work six hours a day for 170 days in a school year to be granted one year of retirement service credit, to instead require 1,020 hours in a school year (which is the same amount of time). Note: There has been discussion in some school districts of going to a four-day week with longer school days. Passage of this bill in the Senate occurs after the provisions in House Bill 4452, which Gov. Jennifer Granholm vetoed, were inserted into the annual K-12 school aid budget. The provisions would revise the law which requires a minimum of 180 days of instruction as a condition of state funding, to instead require 1,098 hours of instruction per year (which comes to 6.1 hours a day over 180 days).
