2003 House Bill 4831

Introduced in the House

June 12, 2003

Introduced by Rep. John Pappageorge (R-41)

To require all local and state primary, general, and special elections, including school elections, to be held on one of three days during the year: the first Tuesday after the first Monday in either June, August, or November. The June date would include all education related elections, including school boards, university boards, the State Board of Education, community college boards, and intermediate school district boards. Primary and general elections for congress, state offices, and the Supreme Court would take place in August and November of even years, respectively, and primary and general elections for local officials and local judges would take place in August and November of odd years, respectively. Bond and millage elections could be held only on one of the three regular election days each year. School districts would still run the June school elections, as under current law, but a district could opt to let local clerks run these instead. These provisions would not apply to special elections called by the Governor under Article XII, Section 1 of the state Constitution to fill open statewide or legislative offices. The bill is part of election consolidation package comprised of House Bills 4829 to 4832. See also House Bills 4820 to 4828, the election consolidation package promoted by the Secretary of State Land.
