To require the seller of any building with a cellar or basement to have the structure tested for the presence of radon gas, and to provide a prospective buyer a written copy of the test results. Radon is a known human carcinogen which is harmful in high concentrations. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency estimates that radon causes thousands of cancer deaths a year. Critics point out that this estimate is based on extrapolating data from uranium miners who encounter very high levels of radon, and that there is no direct evidence that the much lower radon levels encountered in homes has caused any cancer in humans.
