Introduced
by
To forgive state loans to the Mackinac Bridge Authority, and prohibit the authority from raising the tolls on the bridge until at least October 1, 2007. The tolls were recently increased for all vehicles. The toll for passenger cars went from $1.50 to $2.50. The bill is part of a legislative package comprised of House Bills 4627 to 4631, which is designed to roll back the fee increase.
Referred to the Committee on Transportation
Reported without amendment
With the recommendation that the substitute (S-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
Substitute offered
To replace the previous version of the bill with one which does not contain the prohibition on Mackinac Bridge toll increases. Instead, another bill in the package would have the effect of rolling back the recent toll hikes in return for more annual payments to the bridge from state motor fuel revenues.
The substitute passed by voice vote
Passed in the Senate 26 to 12 (details)
To delete a requirement that, once the cost of the Mackinac Bridge is fully paid for, it would be a free bridge. The bill further would forgive all advances made by the state under the Motor Fuel Tax Act to the Mackinac Bridge Authority.
