Introduced
by
To allow the children of public school teachers to attend school in the district in which their parent teaches, even if their assigned district (based on where they live) is different. The approval of the child’s district of residence would not be required in order for the parent/teacher’s district to collect the per-pupil state school aid grant for the child.
Referred to the Committee on Education
Reported without amendment
With the recommendation that the substitute (S-1) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
Substitute offered
To replace the previous version of the bill with one that revises details but does not change the substance of the bill as previously described.
The substitute passed by voice vote

Without amendment and with the recommendation that the bill pass. On the House floor, the Speaker of the House offered an amendment to use the bill as a "vehicle" to place on the ballot in Genesee, Kent, Macomb and Oakland counties a measure to close down the county Intermediate School District (ISD), and transfer its revenue to the regular school districts in the county. The Speaker said he was trying to put pressure on ISDs, which he contended were "stonewalling" a package of ISD governance reform bills. The amendment was later withdrawn.
