To establish that an individual who assaults or assaults and batters his or her spouse or former spouse, dating relationship partner, other parent of his or her child, or a resident or former resident of the same household three or more times within a 12-month period is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment up to four years and a $2,000 fine. The three or more assaults committed within a 12-month period do not have to have been committed against the same person.
