2003 Senate Bill 769

Introduced in the Senate

Oct. 9, 2003

Introduced by Sen. Shirley Johnson (R-13)

To recognize and authorize in statute the state Department of Labor and Economic Growth created by Executive Order No. 2003-18, and to provide a “placeholder” for future appropriations to the department. This new department was formerly known as the Department of Consumer and Industry Services, and consolidated various functions of the Department of Community Health, the Department of Environmental Quality, the Department of Management and Budget, the Department of State Police, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Treasury, and the Family Independence Agency. It also assumed the functions of the Department of Career Development, which was eliminated. The new department is intended to centralize the state’s job, workforce, economic development, workers compensation, and business regulation functions under one department.
