2004 House Bill 5856

Revise Fire Fighters Training Council

Introduced in the House

May 5, 2004

Introduced by Rep. Steve Bieda (D-25)

To revise the membership of the state Fire Fighters Training Council, which develops firefighter training standards and courses, certifies instructors, develops and administers certification exams, and establishes regional training centers for new fire fighters. The bill would add a council member with ties to the insurance industry, one recommended by the Michigan Municipal League, and one recommended by the Michigan Townships Association. It would also revise certain training standards and duties of the council, and revise the source and distribution formula for money in the state treasury’s Fire Fighters Training Fund, including revenue from the new insurance policy assessment proposed by House Bill 5855. Money from this fund goes to the council and to local fire departments.
