2004 House Bill 5933

Facilitate personal I.D.s for released prisoners

Introduced in the House

May 25, 2004

Introduced by Rep. Jacob Hoogendyk (R-61)

To require prisoners to make reasonable efforts while incarcerated to obtain identification documents that will make it possible for them to get a state personal identification card or drivers license when released, and require the Department of Corrections to assist them. The bill would also require the department to give the Secretary of State access to its records to help verify prisoners’ identities, and would establish a restricted fund to pay for these activities. The bill is part of a package comprised of House Bills 5933 to 5937, which are intended to make it easier for released prisoners to get identification.
