Introduced in the House

May 27, 2004

Introduced by Rep. Chris Kolb (D-53)

Ban mercury switches in new cars sold in Michigan, require auto manufacturers to create a program to remove at least 90 percent of mercury switches from junked cars before they are crushed, and require vehicle recyclers to remove all mercury switches from junked cars. The bill proposes a comprehensive regulatory regime to enforce compliance, and to review and oversee the manufacturers’ programs.
