To provide the “template” or “place holder” for a Senate Republican version of a Fiscal Year 2004-2005 Department of Labor and Economic Growth. This bill contains no appropriations, but may be amended at a later date to include them. Note: This new department was formerly known as the Department of Consumer and Industry Services, and consolidated various functions of the Departments of Community Health, Environmental Quality, Management and Budget, State Police, Transportation, Treasury, the Family Independence Agency, and the Michigan Strategic Fund ("Jobs Commission"). It also assumed the functions of the Department of Career Development, which was eliminated.
