2004 Senate Bill 1363

Require MEAP social studies test for Merit scholarship

Introduced in the Senate

Sept. 8, 2004

Introduced by Sen. Gerald Van Woerkom (R-34)

To require that the MEAP social studies assessment test results be used in determining eligibility for state merit award scholarships. Note: The social studies test was not included when the scholarship was created due to the fact that many legislators considered it to be too “politically correct.” Also, to authorize smaller graduated merit awards for seventh and eighth graders who do well on two or more of the five MEAP test subject areas.
