Introduced
by
To require school board and village elections to be held in November. Under election consolidation law passed in 2003, school districts may choose to hold their elections in May, which in most cases means the districts must pay the entire cost of the election, because no other government bodies have elections then.
Referred to the Committee on Oversight, Elections, and Ethics
Reported without amendment
With the recommendation that the substitute (H-3) be adopted and that the bill then pass.
Substitute offered
To replace the previous version of the bill with one that does not require all school elections be held in November, but instead just requires school districts to schedule their May elections in either odd or even years.
The substitute passed by voice vote

Passed in the House 60 to 46 (details)
To require all regular school board elections to be held in November, in either even or odd years. Under election consolidation law passed in 2003, school districts may choose to hold their elections in May, which in most cases means the districts must pay the entire cost of the election, because no other government bodies have elections then. The bill also specifies that for village elections held in conjunction with another township election, a village would pay a proportionate share of the election expense. If not, the village would pay 100 percent of the actual costs.
