Introduced in the Senate

Feb. 17, 2005

Introduced by Sen. Patricia Birkholz (R-24)

To prohibit a person from knowingly disposing of a cathode ray tube, including a television or computer monitor containing a cathode ray tube, in a landfill. The owner or operator of a landfill would also be prohibited from permitting the disposal of such items. The prohibition would take effect June 1, 2006. The Department of Environmental Quality would be required to convene a task force before then to report to the legislature on the adequacy of regulations on the disposal of electronic waste, and in particular, cathode ray tubes. The task force would be composed of representatives of manufacturers of electronic equipment, environmental organizations, retail businesses that handle electronic equipment, members of the public, and other interested persons.
