2005 Senate Bill 636

“Graduated” pension health benefits for new school employees

Introduced in the Senate

June 22, 2005

Introduced by Sen. Wayne Kuipers (R-30)

To require new public school employees to have at least 15 years on the job before becoming eligible to “purchase” service credits for additional post-retirement health insurance coverage. See Senate Bill 635, which establishes a “graduated” post-retirement health care system that increases coverage with each year’s service credit. Under current law a school employee with five years on the job can “purchase” another five years credit and become eligible for full post-retirement health care benefits.
