2005 Senate Bill 96

Encourage coaches ethics policy

Introduced in the Senate

Jan. 26, 2005

Introduced by Sen. Valde Garcia (R-22)

To require the Department of Education to develop a model conduct and ethics policy for interscholastic athletic coaches, and encourage schools to adopt it. The policy should require coaches to treat all involved with respect and dignity; not place players in any position that would jeopardize their health or safety; conduct all activities for the mental and physical welfare of the players; cooperate with administrators in enforcing rules and regulations; plan activities so all players have an equal opportunity to improve their skill through active participation; report conditions or practices that violate sound recreational guidelines; learn players’ strengths and weaknesses, and place them in situations to have fun and learn the fundamentals of the sport, as well as good sportsmanship.
