2006 House Bill 5659

Require clean up of Detroit and other voter rolls

Introduced in the House

Feb. 8, 2006

Introduced by Rep. George Cushingberry (D-8)

To require the Detroit City Clerk to compare voter registration records with buildings that have been demolished, and strike such registrations from the voter rolls, before the August 2006 primary election. Clerks in the rest of the state would have until 2008 to do the same. The bill also gives clerks more authority and responsibility to strike from the rolls people who have not voted in a long time, or who are not residents of the jurisdiction, and defines the conditions for doing this.
