2006 House Bill 6647

Establish new energy requirements for existing and new structures

Introduced in the House

Nov. 14, 2006

Introduced by Rep. Chris Kolb (D-53)

To require the Public Service Commission to establish a new energy efficiency code for existing and new residential and commercial structures, to be based on national standards. Under current law, new residential construction is supposed to meet standards established by the state based on expected “payback” periods. The Granholm administration has sought to impose standards that exceed this level, and their authority to do so is the subject of an ongoing lawsuit.
