2006 Senate Bill 1291

Impose regulations on cell phone providers

Introduced in the Senate

June 7, 2006

Introduced by Sen. Gilda Jacobs (D-14)

To require cell phone companies to provide accurate service maps, publish clear and understandable rate information and service limits, provide a good faith estimate of monthly service costs, and more. The companies would be prohibited from canceling a customer contract unless notice was given 30 days in advance, and would be required to give a 20 day right of rescission (cancellation) to new customers after signing a contract (with the customer responsible for any charges for those 20 days). Companies would be prohibited from charging a service termination fee of more than $20. The Public Service Commission would be empowered to impose additional regulations on cell phone providers.
