Give preference to relatives over foster care

Introduced in the House

May 9, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Robert Dean (D-75)

To require the parents of a child who government authorities are considering removing from the home and placing in foster care to give the Department of Human Services the names and addresses of any relatives of the child. House bill 4735 requires the authorities to give special consideration and preference to placing the child with relatives instead of foster care, unless doing so is clearly not in the child’s best interests.
