To require a person applying for a state identification card to provide documents showing the applicant's full legal name history and date of birth, his or her address and residency, and that demonstrate that the applicant is a U.S. citizen, is an alien lawfully admitted for permanent or temporary residence, or has conditional permanent resident status in the U.S. The bill also requires the Secretary of State to verify that the documents are genuine, check applicants against a federal citizenship database, and use digital photos on state ID cards. It would also raise ID card fees from $10 to $20. The bill would bring Michigan personal ID cards into compliance with the federal REAL ID Act.
