2007 House Bill 5572

Establish that illegal aliens eligible for job-related injury compensation

Introduced in the House

Dec. 13, 2007

Introduced by Rep. Steve Tobocman (D-12)

To revise a provision in the workers compensation law that does not require an employer (or their workers comp insurance carrier) to compensate an employee who is unable to work because of an injury sustained during the commission of a crime, or for being in prison. The bill would establish that an alien’s working without employment authorization, or using false documents to get work, would not be considered a “crime” making the person ineligible for compensation for a work-related injury.
