2007 Senate Bill 468

Revise gravel road speed limit setting procedures

Introduced in the Senate

May 1, 2007

Introduced by Sen. Nancy Cassis (R-15)

To revise the law that authorizes a county government, a township government and the state police acting unanimously to cause a traffic engineering study to be performed to determine whether the speed limits on a particular gravel road should be different than the statutory "prima facie" speed limit. The bill would establish that the study may be conducted by the either the township, the county sheriff, the county road commission, or the state police, acting alone or in any combination. Note: In 2006 a new law went into effect raising this state "prima facie" speed limit on dirt and gravel roads. Before then many of these roads had lower limits.
