2007 Senate Bill 520

Ban felons from public office in Michigan

Introduced in the Senate

May 22, 2007

Introduced by Sen. John Gleason (D-27)

To prohibit an individual who has been convicted of a felony from holding public office in Michigan. The bill does not apply to legislators, since that is controlled by the Constitution, which makes the House and the Senate the sole judge of the qualifications of their members, and gives them the authority to expel a member with a two-thirds vote.
